Electrochemical glass, also known as dynamic glass, refers to an electronically tinted glass used in windows, doors, mirrors, and indoor applications. A low-voltage electrical charge is passed through a thin coating on the glass surface that activates an electrochromic layer, which can change color from transparent to translucent or opaque. Electrochemical glass helps to reduce overheating in highly glazed spaces by decreasing the G factor and light transition of glass, thereby keeping the interiors cooler and saving additional air-conditioning costs. As a result, these glasses are widely used across diverse industries, including construction, automotive, aerospace, marine, etc.
The rising environmental concerns towards high carbon emissions from conventional glasses in commercial and residential buildings are driving the need for energy-efficient solutions. Electrochemical glass helps in controlling the amount of heat generation based on ambient temperature, which further reduces the emission of greenhouse gases. Moreover, the growing construction of smart infrastructures is also propelling the demand for electrochemical glass for controlling overheating and maintaining room temperature. In line with this, several government bodies across the globe are increasingly investing in the sustainable development of green and energy-efficient buildings, thereby catalyzing the demand for electrochemical glass. Additionally, the rising number of refurbishment and remodeling activities has led to the replacement of conventional glasses with electrochemical glass across office buildings, institutions, retail facilities, healthcare centers, etc. Moreover, the growing demand for glare-free glass components, such as windshields, rear- and side-view mirrors, windows, etc., in automobiles is also propelling the market growth on a global level. The electrochemical glass in vehicles helps in minimizing extra glaze, improving vehicular efficiency, maintaining interior temperature, and enhancing passenger comfort. In the coming years, the increasing usage of electrochemical glass in various smart devices will also continue to further drive the market growth.
