Cold gas spray coating, or CGS coating, is a type of thermal spray technique. In this technique, supersonic compressed gas accelerates powder particles at extremely high speeds below their melting point temperatures. The cold gas spray coating process has good coating bond strength and high deposition efficiency. The coating is used for repairing corrosive and structural components, which cannot be performed with welding. CGS procedure can deposit various materials, such as composites, polymers, metals, and ceramics and is mainly applied across four fields, including dimensional restoration, electrical and thermal conductivity, corrosion protection, and pre-placement of solders.
Cold gas spray coating is preferred over other thermal spray processes as it increases hardness, reduces porosity, improves adhesion strength, and retains feedstock powder properties. This represents one of the primary factors driving the global cold gas spray coating market. In addition to this, the increasing use of this thermal coating technique in the aerospace industry for component repairment is also contributing to the market growth. Moreover, increasing utilization of amorphous and nanostructured materials in advanced electrical equipment production has presented a number of growth prospects to market players, which, in turn, is creating a positive outlook for the market. Other factors, such as increasing utilization of cold gas spray coating in the medical industry and significant growth in the consumer electronics segment due to inflating disposable incomes, are expected to drive the market further.
