Europe Bisphenol A Price
Q2 2024:
In Europe, the market was marked by fluctuating prices during the second quarter of 2024. The early part of the quarter saw a notable decline in prices because of reduced applications in the epoxy resin and polycarbonate sectors, largely attributed to a decline in construction industry. The construction activity in the Eurozone faced a downturn, with declining orders and reduced activity affecting overall demand for BPA. Moreover, prices began to recover in June as the market responded to limited raw material supply and rising crude oil costs driven by geopolitical instability. Additional pressures from supply chain disruptions further impacted BPA transportation, leading to a modest price increase.
Q1 2024:
During the first quarter of 2024, the market in Europe faced an overall rise, despite some fluctuations. Geopolitical complications in the Middle East bolstered the market, offsetting the reduced need from end use sectors and steady raw material costs. In the Netherlands, initial stability gave way to rising prices in February because of stronger need from the polycarbonate and epoxy sectors, combined with material delays and high import costs from Asia. March experienced this upward trend, supported by robust requirements from construction and automotive industries, even amid global supply chain disruptions and raw material price hikes. The European market, particularly in the Netherlands, remained strong attributed to sustained demand and supply constraints.
Q4 2023:
During the early months, prices fell sharply, influenced by reduced demand from the automotive and construction sectors, along with lowered crude oil prices. The market was oversupplied because of additional imports from Asia and low-cost options from China, leading to the downward pressure. November saw moderate demand, but logistical challenges and geopolitical tensions, caused delays and disrupted supply chains. This led to increased costs and a higher BPA price by December, as the construction sector gained momentum and supply concerns intensified.

North America Bisphenol A Price
Q2 2024:
In the second quarter of 2024, North America saw a fluctuating market condition. Initially, costs in the region saw a minor decline because of adequate supplies and reduced need in the polycarbonate and epoxy resin sectors. However, a sharp rebound followed in May and June, due to constrained supply of raw materials like acetone and phenol, coupled with rising prices of crude oil influenced by geopolitical issues. This price surge was further supported by plant shutdowns in Asia, which limited global supply. Domestically, BPA demand strengthened, partly due to a recovering housing market. In addition, global supply chain disruptions, including delayed returns, added to the complexities of BPA transportation, influencing pricing dynamics positively by the end of the quarter.
Q1 2024:
In Q1 2024, the market saw a notable decline, driven by various factors. Reduced import prices from Asia, particularly from Japan and China, played a significant role, as did a surplus of supply resulting from a slowdown in end use industries like polycarbonates and epoxy resins. This was largely owing to weaker construction activity in the exporting countries. The U.S. market experienced a particularly sharp price drop, despite a brief recovery mid-quarter caused by supply issues in Asia because of the Lunar New Year and shipping delays. Overall, the low-cost trend was consistent throughout the quarter, portraying a subdued market scenario across the region.
Q4 2023:
The market witnessed increased inventories in October and November. Improved availability and lower import costs, influenced by events like China's Golden Week, contributed to this downturn. The downstream epoxy resin market observed a steady demand but weakened crude oil prices and an influx of cheaper imports from Asia pressured prices down further. As the winter season approached, reduced activity in the paints, coatings, and plastics sectors added to the oversupply, leading to continued price reductions. December month saw increased demand because of shipping delays.

Middle East and Africa Bisphenol A Price
Q2 2024:
The Middle East and Africa region saw a mixed cost landscape in the second quarter of 2024. Early in the quarter, prices dipped because of abundant inventories and subdued applications in the polycarbonate and epoxy resin sectors. Moreover, the following months experienced a significant price rebound owing to limited raw material accessibility and rising crude oil costs amid geopolitical concerns. Market conditions were further strained by plant closures in major exporting countries, contributing to supply constraints. In Saudi Arabia, demand increased attributed to a strong recovery in the construction sector, while global supply chain complications and port congestion added additional pressure. These factors collectively led to a better cost scenario.
Q1 2024:
In the Middle East and Africa, the market in the Q1 2024 showed mixed trends, ending the period with a stable outlook. Initially, prices fell due to reduction in the costs of imports and excessive supply, especially in Saudi Arabia, where demand from key industries had weakened. Mid-quarter saw prices rise again, due to increased buying ahead of Ramadan and stable feedstock costs. By March, the market stabilized as regional manufacturers operated on minimum schedules due to Ramadan, balancing demand and supply.
Q4 2023:
During Q4 2023, the market in the Middle East and Africa region experienced notable price fluctuations. Several factors contributed to these changes, including an availability of affordable Chinese imports, reduced consumption in end use sectors, and tight supply of key feedstocks. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia saw the most significant price shifts, largely due to rising demand from the construction sector for epoxy resins and polycarbonates, while demand in other industries stayed steady, stabilizing the market. Nonetheless, shrinking number of housing projects coupled with a slowdown in the real estate market negatively impacted the construction industry.

Asia Pacific Bisphenol A Price
Q2 2024:
During the second quarter of 2024, the Asia Pacific region saw varied price trends prices initially dropped because of abundant supply and weak need from the polycarbonate and epoxy resin sectors. However, a significant recovery occurred in May and June as raw material shortages and rising crude oil costs, driven by geopolitical factors, tightened supply. Site closedowns in key exporting countries, such as China, restricted BPA availability, pushing costs upward. These factors collectively contributed to a healthier cost trend.
Q1 2024:
The Asia Pacific region saw reduced prices during the first quarter of 2024. This trend was primarily driven by weak requirements from end use industries, including polycarbonates and epoxy resins, which were affected by a slowdown in construction projects and lower purchasing rates. The market was characterized by negative outlook, oversupply, and a challenging environment for the petrochemical sector, marked by reduced profitability. In Japan, prices fluctuated due to seasonality, with the Lunar New Year and a slump in the construction sector due to in colder weather, leading to notable price reductions. Overall, the market outlook for BPA in the Asia Pacific region remained pessimistic throughout the quarter.
Q4 2023:
Throughout Q4 of 2023, the markets experienced a steady decline, primarily due to weak support from feedstock materials such as phenol and acetone. Japan faced persistent price drops as oversupply conditions and subdued prices across Asia strengthened the competitiveness of Japanese exports. Key market players like Mitsui Chemicals adjusted operations in order to these market dynamics, and Idemitsu Kosan exited the Bisphenol A production business altogether. Additional market pressures stemmed from regulatory changes in the construction industry and decreases in feedstock and crude oil prices.

Product Description
Bisphenol A also known as BPA is a type of synthetic organic compound which belongs to the group of diphenylmethane derivatives and bisphenols, with the chemical formula (CH₃) ₂C(C₆H₄OH)₂. It is produced through a condensation reaction between phenol and propanone (acetone) with an acid catalyst such as hydrochloric acid. Polycarbonate plastic is made from bisphenol A (BPA). Polycarbonate plastic is used to manufacture hard plastic items such as baby bottles, reusable water bottles, food containers, pitchers, tableware, and storage containers. BPA is also present in epoxy resins, which serve as a protective lining on the inside of some metal-based food and beverage cans. Bisphenol A (BPA) is an extremely well-studied building-block chemical that is primarily used to make long-lasting epoxy resins and strong, clear polycarbonate plastic. For decades, polycarbonate plastic and epoxy resins have been used to strengthen products intended for human health and safety.
